What’s in Season in Ontario Right Now
There’s something special about this time of year in Ontario!
After a long winter, local produce is finally starting to arrive again and the market begins to feel full of life. Every week brings something new and it’s one of our favourite parts of the season.
Right now, fresh Ontario asparagus is one of the highlights. It’s one of the first local vegetables of the year and always a customer favourite. Whether you roast it on the barbecue, add it to pasta or keep it simple with butter and seasoning, fresh Ontario asparagus is hard to beat.
We’re also starting to see Ontario rhubarb and Ontario radishes arrive — a sure sign that spring is here. Perfect for pies, crisps and baking, it’s one of those seasonal favourites people wait all year for.
Along with local produce, the market is filled with fresh ingredients for spring meals including Ontario greenhouse tomatoes, mushrooms, fresh herbs and more. It’s the time of year when meals start feeling lighter, fresher and more colourful again.
And this is only the beginning.
Over the next few weeks, more Ontario favourites will continue rolling in including strawberries, pod peas, beans and of course sweet corn later in the season. One of the best things about shopping local and seasonal is that there’s always something new to look forward to.
The garden centre is also in full swing right now with hanging baskets, planters, annuals, perennials and vegetable plants filling the greenhouse. Whether you’re planting your garden, updating your porch or just looking for a little spring inspiration, it’s a beautiful time to visit.
